2005 Western National Invitational - North 1st!!!

" This past weekend at Mission Bay Yacht Club in San Diego, CA Capri 22 Team Freebird competed in the Capri 22 Western National Invitational. We sailed with a crew of four; Patrick Morrisey on the bow, Junior Sailor Harrison Bennett at the mast, Parker Garrett in the middle for jib/spinnaker trim and tactics, and myself driving. Of particular interest, we were the only boat equipped exclusively with North Sails. We led at every mark, winning all 5 races and the regatta! Clearly, our North Sails substantially out performed the competition. We were able to consistently point higher and go faster to weather, and run faster down wind with the North Sails spinnaker. In light and heavy ocean swells, these sails were forgiving and stayed powered up. I am impressed with the performance and durability of our North Sails as they have been well used for two seasons and still look great. I suspect we won’t be the only North boat next year. Thanks for great sails and excellent customer support; there is no question as to which brand I will buy next; North Sails! "

2003 Capri 22 Nationals - North 1st!

“Freebird” ghosts downwind on the light air first day of the 2003 Nationals.

As a culmination of about a year of preparation the team of Jon Real and Chris Nesbitt have won the Capri 22 Nationals. These two guys have been working on this for about that time and roughly nine months ago came and asked us here at North Sails One Design to help them with their sails. Jon owns and runs a transportation company and Chris works for a furniture leasing company. To say these guys are busy is an understatement, but they found the time to practice and sail whenever possible. Just this March they won the Capri 22 division in the San Diego NOOD regatta.

Ched Proctor, our head designer took up the challenge and after we surveyed what was on the market currently, came up with a completely new set of sails for this fast, little boat. With scores of 1,4,1,1,1,1 there is no doubt that Jon and Chris’s “Freebird” was the fastest boat on the water. Patrick Morrisey and Bud Mackay rounded out the winning crew.

Our new designs for the Capri 22 incorporate the best materials we can find for this type of sail and boat. As Chris said after the regatta: “These sails are fast AND easy to trim”.

2003 NOOD San Diego - North 1st!

Sailing the only boat in the fleet with North Sails the team of John Real and Chris Nesbitt had consistently good boat speed and keep grinding throughout the weekend to win the NOOD/Capri 22 Western Regionals by one point over Steve Ross. John and Chris have been working with us to help us develop our sails for the Capri and the results are showing. Our genoa is modeled after our successful J/24 design and uses Pentex/Mylar cloth in its tri-radial design. Our mainsail design is a modified version of our J/22 mainsail and has been refined to fit the mast and characteristics of the Capri 22.

We are currently working on a improved spinnaker design for the Capri 22 and at further improving our mainsail and genoa designs. Congratulations to Team Freebird for a great victory.
