Daysailer Tuning Guide
with photos and great tips!

Mike and Erik McCaffrey
2006 North American Champions

"Thank you so much for the new 2006 North Main and Jib for my DaySailer. They were very fast, faster than my 2002 North sails, partially because the 2006 main has a flatter luff entry above the spreaders. Thanks to Greg Fisher for making the new sails faster. We used the new 2006 North sails for the first time at the 2006 North American Championships.

Our race results were: First in the 2006 Junior NAC (I crewed for my 13 year old son Erik) and First in the 2006 NAC (Erik crewed for me). "

Mike McCaffrey

DAYSAILER MAIN

  • Built from a lighter, 3.8oz firmer coated cloth the North Daysailer Main is flatter with a more open leech to make it easier to depower in a breeze and less apt to stall in light winds.

  • This mainsail is designed to match the bend characteristics of nearly all the most popular Day Sailer masts presently sailed.

  • The Daysailer comes standard with both vision window and spreader windows.

  • Mainsails include: Tapered battens, numbers, bag and cunningham.

DAYSAILER JIB

  • The North Daysailer Jib is built from a 4.5 ounce coated high performance fabric.

  • This jib is relatively full and powerful in the entry to help make the boat easier to steer in light shifty winds or choppy, wavy conditions.

  • Like the main, a relatively open leech is incorporated into the design which helps the sail be less apt to stall in lighter winds and provide a more open slot in breezy conditions.

  • Jib includes: window, telltales, bag and luff wire.

Soft Cloth Main and Jib Set - New for 2008!

In addition to our fast racing sails, we are now offering a set of softer cloth daysailing sails for the Daysailer class! Get the North quality on affordable sails and have fun!

DAYSAILER .75 CROSSCUT SPINNAKER
  • The North .75 Crosscut Spinnaker is built out of .75 ounce Challenge Fleetwing fabric and designed with a relatively open upper leech area which helps project the shoulders for broad reaching and running conditions. With the pole slightly lowered, the spinnaker reaches exceptionally high as well.

  • The crosscut design helps to increase the durability by aligning the greatest strength of the cloth with the load line up and around the leeches of the spinnaker.

DAYSAILER .5 CROSSCUT SPINNAKER
  • The North .5 Crosscut Spinnaker is built
out of a high performance .5 ounce Contender
    fabric.

  • NEW COLORS!

Dear Greg,
Thought you would want to know that North Sails took 1st and 2nd in the 2002 Day Sailer New Englands, hosted at Quannapowitt Yacht Club in Wakefield, MA on 13 July. My son Eric and I took first place, and Ed and Marne Wojtaszek took second.

While we still have some learning and tuning to do with the sails, I felt we were very fast - even in the broad wind velocity we were never at a disadvantage to the others. Thanks for the boatspeed.

Glenn Bell

"Dear Chris,
Enjoyed seeing you again, and thanks for the tour of the loft. On behalf of the Day Sailer Class, please accept our thanks to you and Greg Fisher for the North hats and shirts. They were a big hit.

Good news for your team: North sails took first, second and fourth at the 2001 Day Sailer North American Championship Regatta!!!
