2010 Key West Update
by Will Keyworth
the 2010 Key West Race Week was Brian Keane's first experience with North. Due to the class rules on sail purchases Brian could only purchase two sails. He opted for the CM-1 mainsail and the CJ-1 jib (new design for 2010). We worked with Brian for a day on his rig tune and did some sailing on Saturday prior to the start of racing. Brian won the 15 boat J-105 class by 22 points!!! His scores of 2,1,4,2,1,4,2,2,1,1 showed the versatility of our J-105 sails in a variety of conditions. Brian comments:
“KWRW was our first regatta using the North main and jib and we were delighted with the results,” said Keane. “In particular, we were impressed with how quick and easy it was to change gears to match the conditions.”

Through continual sail testing and tuning trials, we continue to move our J/105 program forward. Our latest sails and tuning guides have proven to be the most versatile and most user-friendly program on the water. Our customers know that if they use our tuning guide as a baseline that they will be as fast as anyone and can concentrate on race winning tactics.

CLASS ASSYMETRICS - NEW V-SERIES DESIGNS!
89 square meters
Asymmetric spinnaker development continues to move at a rapid pace. North has revolutionized spinnaker
development with the new Virtual Wind Tunnel, which accurately simulates downwind airflow over unlimited
dynamic range at 100% scale.
North’s J/105 team utilized VWT simulations in a quest to develop a better J/105 spinnaker in all wind conditions. Various new design shapes and sail geometries were tested against North’s standard J/105 designs. The result is North’s new VForce J/105 asymmetrics, featuring optimized sail sizing for increased actual surface area under the 89m2 areas rule, greater driving force in all wind speeds, and improved twist characteristics; leech twists easily in light air, yet doesn’t over twist in heavy air. Constructed with North’s new NorLite 70OD, designed specifically for the J/105, the new VForce asymmetrics will give North customers an even greater advantage.
VForce All-Purpose
Available in NorLon 75 and NorLite 70 OD fabrics
VMG Force Heavy Air
The new VMGForce asymmetric spinnaker was designed to address the new class rule allowing two spinnakers to be used in the same race. The VMGForce is designed for lighter air VMG angles in winds of 10 knots or less. This sail is a full 89 sq meters with flatter sections for easier light air flying in tighter angles.
VForce+ Heavy Air
Available in NorLon 75 and NorLite 70 OD fabrics
FEATURES:
» High Modulus Luff and Leech Cord
» Sail Numbers
» Box Turtle Bag |
