#1 2007 Worlds!

The San Diego models have been developed by two-time J/24 World Champion Vince Brun and his team in San Diego. The moderate, consistent winds and year round sailing opportunities in San Diego are ideal for sail testing and these designs are the result of countless hours of two boat testing. Utilizing a simple 4-setting tuning system the San Diego designs are true All Purpose designs. These sails will take you from the lightest drifter to 25+ knots of wind.

The San Diego designs utilize slightly more mast pre-bend than the Newport designs. This makes the mast set up slightly softer and hence produces a very forgiving setup. While having the the right tune is still important with the San Diego designs we've found this set up to be especially versatile if you are caught with the wrong tuning for a particular breeze.

SAN DIEGO AP-2 MAINSAIL

  • #1 2007 J/24 Europeans!

The AP-2 is a flatter sail and this makes it a much easier sail to trim and set up. A flatter sail can be trimmed tighter before it is oversheeted and this makes the AP-2 easier to use for sailors of all experience levels.

  • The other thing a somewhat flatter main does for the J/24 is it makes the whole trimming of the sails more automatic. As we trim the main in the leech of the main gets tighter, this in turn pulls the top of the mast back slightly which tightens the headstay and flattens the genoa. The two sails are trimmed in synch with each other and the flatter main makes this possible.

  • The AP-2 comes complete with everything you need, vision and spreader windows, sail numbers, battens, insignia and roll bag.

  • Choose the San Diego AP-2 Mainsail for true all-around performance!

SAN DIEGO GP-7K GENOA

  • New 3DL Kevlar patches are now standard on our very successful GP-7 Genoa, now called GP-7K. Learn more about North's exclusive 3DL genoa patches.

  • The new GP-7K features all the characteristics of our very successful GP-5 Genoa with a little bit more shape on the top to improve light-medium air proformance.

  • Inch for inch the GP-7K Genoa incorporates more low stretch Pentex fiber than any other J/24 genoa on the market today. We have worked hard to maximize the amount of fiber in this sail in order to make it the longest lasting genoa you can buy. More fiber is what makes a sail last longer!

  • After experimenting with many types of hanks on the market, we've opted for bronze hanks on the luff for the best durability and speed of hoist/drop. Our hanks are now unevenly spaced along the luff (further apart at top and bottom of the sail) to provide maximum support in the middle luff of the sail and reduce friction in the top of the sail so it drops faster.

  • The GP-7 comes complete with window, lightweight nylon hanks on the luff, leech line, foot line, sail numbers and roll bag.

SAN DIEGO KW-1 JIB

  • The KW-1 Jib is a tri-radial Dacron jib. This design has been tested and proven in the consistently strong breezes of San Francisco Bay. The Tri-Radial design of this sail makes it super low-stretch which is very important for a sail that will be used in 18-30 knots of wind.

  • We have beefed up the vision window with "bulletproof" glass and added nylon hanks to the luff to save weight. Switching to nylon hanks saves about 2 pounds in the all up weight of the sail, significant when that weight is located aloft and the sail is used in waves.

  • The design of the KW-1 Jib features a very straight exit which helps you to keep the boat flat. Ease the sheet 1/2" and the leech of this sail really opens up and depowers!

  • With the KW-1 Jib you will find the boat much easier to steer in the big breeze and heavy chop that this sail is designed for.

  • Jibs include: vision windows and roll bag.

NEW SAN DIEGO FR-2 SPINNAKER

#1 2007 North Americans!!!

After many hours of on the water testing and computer studies by the North One Design designers, we have finally reached a product that will make a difference in the J/24 class, especially on windward/leeward races.

The image on the right compares the design shape of the new FR-2 (red) to the previous San Diego spinnaker (blue). The head has been flattened so that it flies wider, and the center seam is more upright. The bottom has been refaired so the lower leeches fly more open underneath the middle of the sail. The objective is to make the sail fly more open up and down the luff. The result allows the pole to be flown lower with more projection and a luff that breaks evenly along the entire height of the sail. FASTER.

For more details about the new design, please contact Chris Snow in our San Diego loft. Chris used the FR-2 to win the 2007 J/24 North Americans.

"I want to let you know that the new FR-2 spinnaker is VERY FAST. The FR-2 will be my first choice and easily it is clearly faster than other J24 spinnakers in our fleet.  We were always faster downwind." -- Alec Hughes
